Phdlogs

phlogs for a lack of a better term (or not) are blogs that have photos of dogs. I don’t have a dog and I’d love to have one once I’ll live in an apartment with a balcony or house with a yard. I follow a feed with photos of several dogs to fill the void.

These are are my vicarious dogs.

Little Carmella on instagram  I follow Carmela because I met her in person when my friend Omid brought her to work.

Maddie from Maddie on things.

Walter and Lew on flickr. if dogs had a natural environment, these dogs are there.

Now with music

I finally got to add happy music when the math puzzle is completed. I also changed the instructions to be more clear. (Thank you, Polly.) If you have a website and you want to have this puzzle in it, go ahead and download it.

Full disclosure: I make a small fraction of a cent, or ε (epsilon) cents, every time it is played.

Room Little

I love the White Stripes. I remember seeing them in one of the late night shows (Can you tell them apart?) and thinking I need to hear more of this band.

Edited backwards beat by beat: [audio:uploads/2009/06/lillroom10p52.mp3]

I made some changes to the original script so it can approximate fractions of frames.

Type Nesting – The About page

I love tumblr.com. I had an idea and I created a site for it really quickly. Picking the name for it was the hard part.

It all started with a photo I saw on Flickr a while ago. I marked it as a favorite. Recently I came across several different photos of a bird nesting inside a letter and so I wanted to see if there is a pattern.

One swallow does not make a summer but two made me Google it. A quick search in Flickr yielded many more than 30 photos and I choose the best ones.

So far I can tell that birds clearly prefer to build their nests inside capital R’s and capital A’s.

UPDATE: If you see a photo that you think fits into Type Nesting, please send the URL to dubster2k{at}yahoo.com.

Hustle up the Hancock

This morning I took part in “Hustle up the Hancock”, a race up the stairs of the John Hancock building. I don’t know how good my result was. I estimate it took me 10 minutes. (I did not notice the clock at the finish until later.)

Here I am having fun with SketchUp and Google Earth. I used a model I found in SketchUp 3D Warehouse and positioned it in Google Earth.

The accidental pet

I was digging around my plants, shifting dirt from one planter to the other, and found an earthworm. I always wanted to see how they dig themselves back in, so I set up a camera with time lapse (a frame every two seconds) and walked away. Stupid worm did not dig itself in but instead curled up in the shade.

The music is Walk Away Renee by The Left Banke.
